IontophoresisChamnion Physical Therapy uses a therapeutic modality called iontophoresis to assist in reducing pain and inflamination around a joint or soft tissue.

Typically, a liquid medication called dexamethasone is applied to a patch. The patches differ in how long they take the deliver the medication into the target area. In the clinic, one treatment area takes about 30 minutes to infuse. Using this method, the patient may feel a slight tingling sensation.

Towards the end of the total visit, your therapist may use a different method which involves sending you home with a patch over the target area. The patches are left on the body for 4-8 hours depending on the brand of patch utilized. Your therapist will inform you of any instructions you need to know prior to departure from the clinic.
